Talk and book signing by historian and professor Brenden W. Rensink with his award-winning book, “Native But Foreign: Indigenous Immigrants and Refugees in the North American Borderlands” (Texas A&M University Press, 2018). Co-sponsored by the Arizona Historical Society and University of Arizona Department of History and American Indian Studies Program.
The talk will compare experiences of Indigenous Yaquis, Crees, and Chippewas in Arizona and Montana who the U.S. government categorized as “Foreign” Indians after having crossed international borders from Mexico and Canada. The history will range from the late-nineteenth century to late-twentieth century.
